review 1: Ceritanya agak nyeleneh, dalam artian yang positif tapi. Humornya dapet, biarpun ga sampe bikin ngakak kaya Lyndsay Sands. Chemystry juga dapat, meski saya belum begitu geregetan membacanya. Menceritakan tentang Poppy, gadis cantik anak duda kaya (bangsawan & politikus pula) yang bertekad jadi spinster ketimbang harus menikah tanpa cinta. Poppy ini punya first love seorang pangeran Rusia bernama Sergei, dan diam-diam Poppy pengen nikah sama Sergei. Nah, karena Poppy banyak yang melamar dan tentunya harus ditolak dengan alasan halus, akhirnya Poppy mengarang tunangan khayalan yang bernama Duke of Drummond. Duke ini dia dengar dari cerita koki di rumahnya, dan karena cerita si koki begitu heroik, Poppy pun punya alasan tepat buat nolak setiap lamaran cowok-cowok. Tinggal bil... moreang aja, dia lagi nunggu dilamar sama Duke of Drummond, cowok-cowok pun pergi dengan patah hati. Suatu hari tanpa disangka-sangka, Duke of Drummond yang asli muncul dan melamar Poppy beneran. Tentu saja Poppy kaget dan tidak menyangka kalau Duke khayalannya ini benar-benar ada. Duke of Drummond atau Nickholas sebenarnya adalah bangsawan yang bekerja menjadi agen rahasia. Tapi karena dia seorang duke, tentunya dia juga perlu menikah. Ga mau repot, Nickholas pun tanpa pikir panjang melamar Poppy, toh selama 3 tahun Poppy juga sudah mengarang cerita tentang hubungan mereka. Less complicated? Tunggu dulu. Karena rupanya Nickholas ditugaskan mencari lukisan yang memuat informasi rahasia tentang siapa mata-mata Inggris. Lukisan itu bernama The Pink Lady, dan dimiliki oleh Sergei (cowok yang ditaksir Poppy dari ABG). Selain itu juga ada putri Natasha--janda sekaligus saudara kembar Sergei yang pernah jadi lover Nickholas dan berusaha pengen ngerebut Nickholas dari Poppy. Jujur, karakterisasi Sergei-Natasha ini unik banget. Antagonis yang jerk, tapi konyol dan bikin geli. Overall, light reading yang cocok dibaca di waktu luang.
review 2: Love this author! She's so wonderful that I went to the library and grabbed her whole collection! Poppy is a wonderful, funny, strong, and very likable character. She is lucky enough in life to be the only daughter to a very wealthy man. She is surrounded by suitable suitors and the marriage proposals abound. She however, unknown to her father and the rest of society, is part of a very small club of her and her closest friends, that have made a promise to one another that they will forever remain spinsters unless they actually find someone that they fall in love with. Because she doesn't want to hurt her suitors when she lets them down, she tells them that she has fallen for someone and that she awaits his proposal. When they demand a name of this suitor she tells them he is the Duke of Drummond... a name chosen from stories told to her by the family cook. Believing he is fictional, she feels completely safe in her lie. That is until one evening she attends a ball and the Duke of Drummond makes an appearance to society and to her! The Duke of Drummond has no interest in going out and trying to find a wife, he has other things on his plate as he works for the secret service. Poppy's lies to her suitors give him just the ruse he needs to continue on with his secret agent life. He comes to find out however that they are perfect for one another in their thirst for adventure and that he wants her to give up her status as a spinster and become his true wife. less
