review 1: I started with her 1st series a southern witch series a few years ago and loved them. This series is different but really good. I'm not a big fan if vampire novels but this one doesn't go too far when it comes to the gruesome blood sucking so I found it enjoyable. He characters are well thought out and the story line is unique. She keeps you guessing through out the book. So, over all a very enjoyable read. Now on to the next one!

The world-building is an interesting mix of muses, vampires, demons, and angels. There is great character and relationship development, from flirty to sexy, and I love their long-distance relations... morehip through old-fashioned letters. The muse Alissa is complex, brave, optimistic, and realistic; the ventala (half-vampire) Merrick is darkly romantic, constant, patient, and controlled -- he takes over a territory just so that Alissa can send him letters! less
