review 1: This is better than the first book...and I loved the first book! I did not like Cerise in the first book and I started this one feeling I wouldn't like the heroine but right from the beginning she surprised me. A strong woman who is obviously a match made in heaven for a redemption seeking fallen archangel. The characters from the first book seamlessly carry over to this one and, not surprisingly, Merrick remains his exceptional self. Many times, Cerise thinks how "cool" Merrick is and he certainly is. Regardless, he does not overshadow Lysander who is an amazing character himself. I loved everything about this book. I couldn't put it down, it was riveting.
review 2: (4.5 stars) Even though I had high hopes coming into All That Falls, I didn't expect t
... moreo love it as much as the first book, All that Bleeds, because I so loved that forbidden romance at a distance between, muse Allisa and her dangerous half vampire hero, Merrick. All That Falls is different from its predecessor, but it is every bit as good and maybe even better. I thought that the 'muse' part of Frost's Etherlin world in the last book was a bit odd - the muses seemed like supernatural cheerleaders and one of the main conflicts like a 'beauty' contest. That's not the case this time around since the leading lady, Cerise, is a muse whose powers are on the fritz which serves to put the 'muse'ness is more in the background and it works better for me there. In All that Falls author Kimberly Frost shows that she has her leading men skills down pat, I thought that fallen-but-not-damned-angel Lysander was a great leading man. I liked that fact that the unearthly beautiful but dangerous warrior whose sole focus is waiting for his opportunity to redeem himself and return to heaven - and who generally avoids establishing connections with mortals – is unable to avoid the temptation represented by the muse who so fascinates him. And I loved Cerise, who is a strong character who doesn't just succumb to the angel's desires when their relationship takes an unexpected and life altering turn. I also loved that the combination of her own power and an edge that she gets from her relationship with Lysander keeps her from being a victim when the endgame of a prophesy is put into play. If I had any nits with the story, they would be in the reveal of the mystery surrounding the blockage in Cerise's powers – partly due to what she suffered and partly due to the fact that Cerise's reaction seemed out of character for her.But still, a fabulous heroine, a great leading man with wings, a prophesy and a mystery in the background and some good action sequences - plus appearances by past leads Allisa and Merrick, who I still love - all combine to make All That Falls another winner for me. And when all is said and done the only real downside is that the story felt very finished series-wise and I'd would like more books and more forbidden pairings set in Frost's Etherlin world. less
