review 1: I won this from a Goodreads First Reads giveaway! This is the best book of the series, so far. It has drama of biblical proportions. Literally. There were frogs and locusts, day turning to night, an almost-flooded town...you get the picture. And it was so very entertaining! There's rarely a moment to catch your breath before Tamara is caught up in something else. I remember a fleeting thought when I read the first book of how someone who likes the Sookie Stackhouse books would like these, even though the main focus is witches and not vampires. Now, I'm convinced of it. I read the first three in a row and didn't get bored with any of them. I was delighted for the revealing of the curse that separates Bryn and Tamara. With Zach out of the picture for a while, their relations... morehip grows stronger. But I am excited to see what will happen when he returns in the next book, which I need to get right now!
review 2: I LOVED this. I'm enjoying this series so much. In this book, I'm glad Tamara has some time with Bryn, finally. And that Zach is out of town. He supports her, accepts her and whatever she wishes to do. I'd say more but I don't want to be too spoilery. This does remind me a bit of the Sookie Stackhouse books in that it's a small town with quirky characters, set in the south, with supernatural shenanigans which the general public is rather clueless. There is a love triangle. The action is pretty non-stop and the banter is hilarious. I do like this character so much better than Sookie. She has the same righteous integrity about saving others, not just killing people. She also has a bunch of relatives who are not always readily available and haven't always told her the truth. So far the scenes with her men are much better in terms of they actually spend some time together, have some intimate conversations, and help each other. I hope this series stays interesting with the characters and relationships and doesn't go off into ridiculous plots and too many lovers as the Sookie books did. less
