review 1: This is a companion volume and you do need the other one which is all about the writing process, explaining which programs to use (Word is favoured, and I recommend the newest version you can get) how to make the book appear properly on Kindle and on phones, IPads and other platforms. This book then deals with the technicality of getting it onto the Web. There is a lot of this data already on the publishing pages on line so the books are not obligatory but if you read them you have a better chance of getting it right. I am lucky in that my husband is a techie but he had to learn the publishing process and I think that anyone reasonably clued-in could manage it with this book to help. You need to upload the book with Firefox, unlike just putting it up in Word. So take it in ... moreeasy steps, get everything you need ready. You also get a guide to images for the cover and to the pricing and royalties screen, which if you have been through those screens already, as I had before I took the book, is quite simple. If like me you are sick and tired of waiting for publishers to even return your manuscript in stamped addressed envelopes if they don't want it, or weary of waiting for a reply to your e-mailed enquiry, then take matters into your own hands. Become a more professional publisher than the publishers. There are a lot of sites out there trying to charge you for all kinds of services so you can spend thousands before your book ever hits the net or the printed page. Don't use any of them. Friends will help proofread if you need it, check all data, even items you are sure of, take good photos for the cover or use an image from the selection available on Kindle. You don't need an agent, or a publisher, who mainly take your money and tell you to do the publicity. Publishing houses are great for well-established authors who want to get into every bookshop but they are very, very bad at giving new talent a chance. You don't need their permission. Read this book and see how simple it is. Go do it.
review 2: This book contained instructions for developing books to be distributed through Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing. I found the book to be a very useful source of information on the processes and procedures to prepare books for sale through Amazon. The information was fairly generic ideas for formatting an e-book, with a lot of information on formatting e-books specifically for Kindle. Additionally, a some business information was covered both about dealings with Amazon and with the market. Some initial clues about conversion software was given, although the knowledge level wasn't for programmers wishing to create their own coded e-book.Some links to resources were given, but I found much more detailed information through Google searches. less
