review 1: The book was an inspiration for me and I agree that self learning has many advantages and is more pure than the systematic way of learning mainly for some specialisation. However, I was about to rate it with two stars as I think that the approach which is used in writing this book is so close to the approach which is used in the conventional education system. So the book is talking about boring way of linear education and in my opinion it was written in the same way. It could have added a sense of humor or cartoons or any new way of writing to deliver the ideas in different approch. I would say that the approaches about learning ,which are mentioned in the book, should be applied also to this book, as I think that there are a lot of unnecessary information presented, at le... moreast for me. The introduction was much of a higher quality than the rest and the book is based on telling stories of people who has succeeded in what they wanted and this is also Hollywood style because it is based on filtration. There were always people who become successful without going through the education system and not necessarily because they never went to school or because they have learnt by themselves but because of other factors.
review 2: This book was a delightful quick read. Stark interviewed several successful people who make experts in their fields through self-study. Some of them never received formal education. It's a good motivational book for anyone who enjoys learning things on their own but is worried they won't stay motivated to do so or could never become successful doing so. There are a lot of insights to be gained from reading the interviews as they detail the part these autodidacts have taken to get where they are today. less
