review 1: what a dark book! i devoured this at the beach and it was bloody, cruel and pretty much in your face. i did like the fantastic world created in it. the nephilim, angels, everything was beautifully told and full of rich pictures. i also liked the idea that the immortal soul can travel from body to body and the original face is still hidden within. that was a good idea. the thing i liked the most was the idea that gender does not matter at all. souls can be reborn in the other gender and this does not change anything about love, desire and lust. true, the book was sometimes quite graphic when it came to sex and it's nothing for the faint hearted because there is lots of aggression. there are scenes male-woman and male-male. although lust did play a big role, it was not the c... moreenter of the book. there were lots of universal themes hidden in this book.. betrayal, revenge, undying love etc etc. i did enjoy the book quite a lot, but i can very well understand that this is not for anyone, not at all..
review 2: An interesting novel with an interesting plot/concept - almost like a mixture of Nalini Singh's Archangel series and a Josh Lanyon crime novel. I enjoyed it for the most part but felt some areas - fight sequences and flashbacks/dream sequences - lost their way at times, becoming longer than they needed to be. The final fight sequence in particular seemed convoluted to the extent that I couldn't get a clear mental picture of what was happening. Of course, this may just be me, I may have been too tired to clearly follow it, but as a regular fantasy reader, it's not usually a problem. That said, I did enjoy this novel, and really liked the overall concept. less
