review 1: I really enjoyed this book. It had a good plot and the romance didn't get in the way of it. I was a little leery of giving the book a try because some people were calling it a 'retelling of Little Red Riding Hood'. Er...no. Aside from the names and a pun or two, it has nothing to do with the fairy tale. The characters were fun and I look forward to reading more of the books. The only negative is that I got lost a few times when the author said 'he'. 'He' only referred to Scarlet, even if the previous paragraph was talking about someone else.
review 2: This book was choppy, the plot was weak, and the writing weaker. There were few beautiful descriptions of setting, a few nice metaphors here and there... but the writing style broke the cardinal rule of 'show, don't
... more tell.' I felt like the author was talking down to the readers, over-narrating so much of the story that there was no room to feel any emotion for the characters; who, I might add, were aimless, dimensionless figures blundering towards each other through forced and unromantic situations. And I was not a fan of the heavy rape subtext. less
