review 1: Interesting story about a boy during World War II who is worried about not doing enough to help his pilot dad come home safe. After he volunteers his dog, he regrets the decision and tries various things to get him back. Meanwhile he has school, and new friends, and chores to figure out and work through. It's a good book to learn more about life in the US during the war, and about one boy's efforts to live a good life, to make the right decisions.
review 2: A great World War II book that is set here on the homefront and not the frontline. Hobie is a very likable character and I felt like I was hanging out with the "Leave it to Beaver" crowd. Great historical fiction, loved that it takes place in Seattle, LOVED that it's not a sad dog book.
