review 1: Objective Summary-Liam Geller has figured out that no matter how hard he tries or what he does he always screws up. Liam’s father, Allen walks in to find his son about to make out with a girl. This pushes him past his breaking point. He decides he is going to kick Liam out and send him to his Grandmas and Grandpas in Nevada. Instead of calling them his mom convinces him to call his “aunt” Pete who is really a guy, he lives in a trailer in Pineville, New YorkWhen Liam arrives at his uncles house he decides he wants to please his dad and not be, Mr. Popularity. He makes himself as uncool as he can but he manages to screw that up to, he was instantly popular and no matter what he does he can’t seem to change. He ends up making his neighbor, Darleen, think that he is a... more moron.Liam decides to help, Eddie, in his boutique, but still doesn't see that he has the talent, at least not the way his father does. Liam joins the army to try to make his father proud of him, but instead his mother and uncle decide to stand up for him. Liam now can focus on the positive parts in his life and forget about the negative parts.
review 2: I wanted to keep reading this because Liam is such a likeable character. His inability to be unpopular reflects our society's enamour with good looks, and his struggles with his emotionally abusive father are heart-rending. I would have given this four stars, but Liam was a little too passive and his character barely began to resolve anything when the book ended. Life doesn't have easy resolutions, but I wanted Liam to start to recognize that his father was emotionally abusive. It needed more resolution, and his naivete began to grate on me after a while. less
