review 1: Absolutely beautiful book. Having been to India first hand, this book brought back many memories of seeing many of the kids in the various conditions mentioned in the book. This book was a tear jerker and a great reminder for those who have seen this poverty, and even an eye opener for those who haven't.The stories of what Bridge For Hope has done in the lives of countless children through the gospel are incredible and well worth the read. Pick it up!
review 2: This book No Longer a Slumdog, written by K.P. Yohannan. It is an outstanding, remarkable, and a life changing book. This book tells the untold stories of children all over the world who have been neglected, abused, hungered, and scared. This book showed me how grateful and thankful for the life the Lord
... morehas given me. Jesus tells us in the Bible, "Let the children come to me", yet all of these children are being ignored. It is our duty on earth to spread the LOVE of JESUS to everyone. In the book, it gives us an idea of how some of the countries in the world categories people. For example, "The word Dalit literally means "broken", "crushed" or "oppressed." In Hindu society, Dalits are at the lowest rung of the ladder. The vast majority of them are impoverished, exploited and powerless to change their fate. Considered to be polluted or unclean, they are called " Untouchables". If they were to touch someone of higher caste, the upper-caste person would supposedly become contaminated. This is why many Dalits are not allowed to drink from community wells and are discouraged from attending schools with other students."(Yohannan 19-20) This is so sickening to me. Another example, "This 3 year old looking boy, lay in the city sucking on a female dogs' nipple, trying to survive and not go hungry."(Yohannan 35) It is so heart breaking for me to read something like this. This book was emotionally hard to read. After reading this book, I view the world differently, am blessed for all the things the Lord has given me, and have a bigger heart to serve others in need. I recommend this book to everyone, it really is a heart changing book. less
