On April 5, celebrated author and Middlebury professor Jay Parini reads from his recently published New and Collected Poems, 1975-2015 and discusses why poetry matters in a world of prose.
Parini is a prolific poet, novelist and biographer. His novels include The Last Station, a story of Leo Tolstoy that was adapted into a major motion picture starring Christopher Plummer and Helen Mirren. Another novel, Benjamin’s Crossing, on the flight of philosopher Walter Benjamin from the Nazi regime, is currently being adapted as a feature film. Parini has edited numerous anthologies of poetry and prose, including The Columbia Anthology of American Poetry and the Norton Book of American Autobiography.
