review 1: Sabine was not my favorite female romantic lead in this series. Perhaps because she was not one of Myst or Nix's half sisters (I love my Valkeryie) or perhaps it was because she just came across as so incredibly selfish and delusional at every turn. I felt bad for Rydstrom because he was tortured by her and yet still felt a desperate need to have her near him, to be with her in intimate ways. I know it is explained that her past history of abuse has led her to be incredibly protective or herself in certain ways such as feigning indifferences and putting on a mask to protect herself from vulnerability, but I did not feel as many heartstrings pulling for her as I did for Rydstrom who seems to be eternally stuck between a rock and a hard place. Alas, I still love this se... moreries!
review 2: Can't say as I liked this one much. Predisposed not to like it, really, as I haven't much liked the hero, Rydstrom, in previous books because of the way he has treated his brother for 900 years (love me Cadeon) and didn't like the heroine either. It's hard to convince me after this book that she is nice in any way. The book was quite dark too, with both parties not treating each other well at all for the first half. I did not like what the heroine did to the hero, particularly in one bit. I suppose the hero to some degree redeemed himself some, but the heroine, na. Probably a good match for each other, in another world, far, far away.... less
