review 1: This was an unexpected, delightful read for me. What Krista Davis captures in "Murder, She Barked" is the inalienable truth that the best pets choose their people, and not the other way around. This is true even if the person (Holly) has to be dragged into the relationship kicking and screaming. The people in Wagtail know this more than most, and they have created a village where people and animals fully co-exist. I want to live there so very, very much. There is some psychic involvement in this book, but mostly the knowing of animals and the intuitiveness of people. The mystery is engaging and thrilling (especially when a pet is involved). And when Holly's fiance and his gold digging ex-girlfriend show up, tensions escalate and a good time is had by...well maybe no... moret by all, but definitely for this reader. I would have liked more resolution to Oma's (Holly's grandmother) nefarious plans...mwah ha ha...but I am willing to wait until the next book to see how it plays out.
review 2: Good first edition to a new series. I'm a really big fan of the author's Domestic Diva mysteries so my expectations were a little high. I enjoyed the small town setting, the inn and main characters- especially Holly, Oma and the cast of fun pets. I think the book may have contained a lot of extra characters that didn't quite pertain to the current storyline, especially getting use to a new series. I also didn't care for Holly's boyfriend. Their relationship didn't seem believable at all. Overall, the storyline kept me entertained and guessing. I'll definitely check out the next book. less
