review 1: A mother and her daughter are on a train; the daughter is sleeping on the bench; the mother gets off the train to make a call at a 10-minute stop; circumstances come into play that delay the woman; train leaves with her daughter on it. Mother rents a car to get to the next stop before the train to get her daughter; a porter is to watch her daughter; a disturbance in another car causes the porter to leave the little girl for 3 or 4 mins. The little girl is gone. No one can find her and she is not seen at the next stop. The inspector on the case has a tough time trying to figure out who took the girl. The girl ends up being found dead with the word "unwanted" written on her forehead. The search for the killer begins. This is a fast-paced read. This is another fantast... moreic Swedish author that finally has been published in English! Looking forward to her next book, Silenced.
review 2: Having read all but one of the Wallander books, I expected a similar Swedish storyline, however this book was more forensic in how the police piece together evidence, or try to understand which evidence they are missing. Although set in Copenhagen it could reside anywhere. The 4 main characters are nicely fleshed out, and you can see further plotlines for the cast if the writer decides to pursue. A first novel that I enjoyed a lot, competently written with flair. I recommend it. less
