review 1: Wanneer een hond in een bos een lijk vind, begint de politie al snel met een onderzoek naar de gevonden vrouw die al twee jaar vermist wordt, Alex Recht en zijn team waren destijds verantwoordelijk voor het onderzoek en zetten dat nu dan ook weer voort. Een verhaal waarin oude geheimen boven komen drijven. Engelbewaarders is dan ook een verhaal dat goed in elkaar zit. De personages worden goed uitgewerkt en komen menselijk over. Het enige nadeel aan dit boek is dat de spanningsboog niet zo hoog ligt en het verhaal wat voorspelbaar is en alledaags. Geen thriller die je lang bijblijft, maar wel goed om te lezen. Ik geef hem dan ook 3 sterren.
review 2: Received as an ARC from the publisher. Started on 2-21-14. Finished it 2-26-14. I'd been told a year or so ago b... morey another Goodreader that Scandinavian murder mysteries tend to be slow and plodding, as opposed to the fast pace of the American variety. This book, written by a female Swedish counter-terrorism officer, is no exception to the rule. The pace didn't pick up until the last 100 pages(of 406.) Lots of characters, and occasionally I got lost as to who was who. Interesting plot, characters with lots of emotional baggage, and multiple buried bodies. I suppose these mysteries may be closer to the reality of police investigations but I still prefer the faster pace. less
