review 1: This was an interesting read and makes we want to try all kinds of mushroom recipes--my only criticism is that Cook's fanboy relationship to cooks, food, and mushroom hunters wore on me at times. That said, his enthusiasm--especially for food--is contagious. Anyone who has lived in the NW will probably enjoy his take on Grants Pass, Crater Lake, and eating $5 steak at a Portland strip club--all experiences that are unique to the region.
review 2: This was just a good book - well-written, thoughtful, entertaining, and informative. I've been a recreational mushroom hunter for most of my life and I learned a lot reading this book. This is part travel narrative and part love song to wild edibles. If you have any interest in wild mushrooms, learning about the commer
... morecial wild edibles industry, or travel in the more rugged and rustic parts of the Pacific northwest, then this is a good read for you. If you're not interested in those things, then read the book anyway, you might learn something. less
