review 1: I wanted to read something professional but light because I have been reading so much indie stuff, not that some of the indie stuff hasn't been great. But I just wanted to clear my head a bit and remind myself what 'professional' is supposed to look like. I have heard lots of good stuff about this writer and I was hoping she would become a new fave.Well, she won't based on this book. Not that it wasn't decent. I can see liking her style much more in a novel form where hopefully she fleshes out her characters and makes me actually care about them. The premise of this novella is a really intriguing one, tho, even if its's been done before in PNR, this was a great new twist. But the characters just felt really flat to me, no life or spark. There were some lol one-liners that I... more loved and the sex was fairly well-handled, but all in all, I feel kinda meh about it. Still, I think I will try a novel of hers, so not a total loss. :)
review 2: Yeah I just plain love this series! The world Ms. Ione's created is fabulous and even though this short isn't with our main group of awesome demons and Underworld General it fits right in.Kaden Quinn and Andrea Cole have worked together in the Aegis for awhile now and their relationship has become more and more serious as time went by. They may not talk about their feelings, but both know how they feel even if they don't say it out loud. All that may change though as now it's Andrea's job to kill Kaden. He may have been out there, working, slaying the vampires they've all hated for so long, but this last job went south fast. Now the vampires have had Kaden for over two weeks and there's no way they didn't turn him. He's most likely a vampire now and Andrea knows her duty. But attempting to kill Kaden may just kill her as well, in more ways than one when the devil vampire that turned Kaden manages to trap her in a cell with Kaden...and he's hungry. This short is very complete and I just love Ms. Ione's writing style. I could feel the struggle both Kaden and Andrea were feeling to have to do "the right thing" based on their programmed response. They know what they've been taught, all demons/vampires are evil and must be killed. Kaden even still half believes it when he doesn't feel any different, well other than that hunger clawing at his stomach. Andrea can't bare the thought of hurting the man she loves and yet it doesn't seem like she'll have any other choice. Of course the solution that presents itself works out so nicely. :) I liked how this story slotted itself back into the world we've all come to know and love while maintaining it's own identity and characters. Kaden and Andrea will be such a great addition to the Underworld Genreal family. less

A fun quick read from Larissa Ione's Demonica series. Andrea and Kaden are Aegis Guardians. Whilst out hunting for vampires one night, Kaden disappears, presumed to be either dead or turned. Andrea is determined not to give up on him and along with her team of Guardians, goes to find him. She does find him locked in a cell, but sadly not how he should be. Yes, he's been turned.Andrea knows she has to stake him, but her love for him stops her, just as his love for her stops him from killing her, when Cedric, the vampire leader locks her in Kaden's cell and removes his chains. Together they hatch a plan to get out, but once they do, they have to decide what is going to happen, both to their relationship and to Kaden, as he will now be hunted by the Aegis. They do meet up with Tayla and Eidolon, linking in nicely with the rest of the series to get a bit of help to move forward.Lots of love, passion and steaminess in this short novella made for a great addition to this series!

I loved reading this book! I have loved reading Ms. Ione’s books since she started the Demonica series and this is a continuation of it. I can honestly say I love reading her books and have read them all. This book is the story of Andrea and Kaden who are both Aegis fighters. Kaden had been taken by Vampires so Andrea leads a team to rescue him. Andrea discovers that her worst fears have come true and they have turned Kaden into a vampire. Now Andrea has to kill the man that she loves. Will their love be enough to hold them together? Read it and find out!

44 pages wasn't nearly enough but it definitely made me decide to read the rest in this series!

A cool story from start to finish. Too short to throw the fifth star at it though.
