Dead Six
review 1: Clearly written by a couple of gun nuts, this book is firefight after firefight with some story in between. I enjoyed the two main characters and thought it was interesting to watch their stories gradually converge. That said, Dead Six was a little long-winded for me and I thought that some of the relationship stuff was a little cheesy. Definitely will give these authors another go and this was a good vacation read.
review 2: I generally like (and, in most cases, love) Larry Correia's books, he writes dumb fun scifi/fantasy action better than anybody else on the market, particularly his Monster Hunter series. That said, I can't say Dead Six grabbed me the way his other books have. Partly it was the fact that the protagonists reminded me too much of his other
... moremain protagonists in personality and general appearance. Partly it was the fact that wacky-conspiracies-are-real fiction just isn't really my thing and the story left too many important whys and wherefores completely unexplained (even for an ongoing series), frankly characters seemed completely disinterested in the bizarre mysteries around them and it bugged me. Partly it was the world, which was disturbingly reminiscent of the Japanese mecha anime Full Metal Panic!, just with the mecha pulled out and the names of the secret organizations changed. Partly it was the fact that the protagonists gun down tons of enemies in this book and it doesn't seem to register with anybody. Even having said all that, it's not that I didn't enjoy reading Dead Six, but Correia has proved he can do so much more with less constrained genres (and he gives peaks at a more elaborate universe here with the mysterious ancient "thing" that is the focus of part of the story and the strange (magical?) girl one of the protagonists rescues in the prologue) and I expect more than this. less

One of those books that you don't want to end. Luckily there is a part 2, which I just started.
