review 1: Great roadmap for how to handle church boards (formal leaders), church elders (informal organizational leaders), the parishioners (customers). While the context of the book is clearly focused on church dynamics, it has direct application to all other businesses or social organizations. It is so well written that it doesn’t take much imagination to make the modifications needed for it to work for any secular organization. The “lessons learned” format of the book makes for easy understanding. It is clear that the concepts were developed in the school of hard knocks vice a lofty institution of higher education.
review 2: About 2 months ago I had the opportunity to meet Larry Osborne at an event sponsored by our church. He had flown out from California to
... more be the key note speaker at a conference, but had agreed to meet with a handful of leaders from our church and another church. I had no idea of who Larry Osborne was before this meeting, but was very impressed by his straight forward way he answered all questions put to him. Osborne was the leader that steers a San Diego based church from a humbly sized church to one of the largest churches in the US over the past 20 years. In the book he explains the many organizational and team mistakes have made over the years. After the meeting I did some research on the books he had written. This book, Sticky Teams, caught my eye and I purchased it. In this book, Osbone explains the problems obstacles church organizations and teams run into and give his perspective on how to either steer clear of them or how to avoid them all together. I found his analysis clear and concise and I appreciated how cut to the point writing style. Almost everything in his book applies to all types of organization and thus I read it with several applications in mind. I plan to read more of his books. less
