review 1: Dr Laura has taught me one important lesson that I desperately hope to remember. Don't be so passionate about your opinion, insulting everyone who might disagree with you, that you then might be so emotionally tied up in your opinion that you close yourself off to the possibility of changing your opinion. She comes across as completely ridiculous. I love the devotion of stay at home moms. The idea that women need to suck it up even if they are tremendously unhappy in that role is horrifying. It ignores the environment which prompted the feminist manifesto. There were problems with the forced homemaker. This book also greatly underestimates the importance of an involved father which makes me so mad listening. Her beliefs have no basis in historical accuracy. The r... moreole of a stay-at-home mom is relatively new. It is valuable, but our evolutionary history is not based on helicopter moms and moms alone.Should have been titled 'Damn Working Moms'.
review 2: I really wanted to like this book as I think that SAHM's get so much negativity thrown at them. However, as a SAHM I was very disappointed in this. The writing is very simple, mostly excerpts from letters and quotes from her listeners. The "tips" are very simplistic and her ideas for organizing your time (nap when baby naps) are not always realistic. She seems to take a "rose-colored glasses" look down memory lane and is a bit out of touch with how it was when she was "in the trenches". I completely agree with her that it's best for all when moms fulfill their role as a mom and actually raise their kids rather than hire out the job that only mom is fully fitted for. However, her condescending attitude and sarcastic tone does nothing to further the plight of SAHM's and merely throws mud back at those that have a negative view of SAHM's. I just can't recommend this book. If you want a wonderfully inspiring book on the beauty and importance of motherhood I highly recommend Sally Clarkson's book "The Mission of Motherhood". less
