review 1: I thought I was going to dislike this entire book while reading the first few chapters. As others have stated below, De. Laura is very one-sided in terms of praising SAHMs [as, I guess, comes with the title]. She speaks negatively about those who choose to work AND raise their children, and that kids without a stay-at-home mom are worse off. I was really looking for a book that described both sides, staying at home versus working and raising a child. As I got further into the book, I found that her attitude changed somewhat. The good thing about the book is that it offers "short stories" from SAHMs that describe the feelings they felt as children without having a full-time mom at home, as well as the feelings they hold now that they are SAHMs themselves. I would say that I... more connected with a few of the stories in the book, as it brought back some of my own feelings as a child without a SAHM. I don't currently have children, and am not planning to have children in the near future, but this book was a nice easy read that offered information for future use. When it comes time to making the decision, I will most likely pull this book out again.
review 2: She raises some good points about valuing being at home and provides good survival tips. However, the author has a snarky attitude of superiority, deriding women who work. She mistakenly assumes that feminists don't value stay at home moms or families and continually insults feminists using the slang "feministas". She sets up a context of war between feminists and SAHM that doesn't need to be there. The purpose of feminism is equality and choice. I know many a feminist SAHM, the two are not mutually exclusive. If you are a feminist, you will need to filter out her attitude to glean the few good nuggets and suggestions about how to handle the transition to being at home and how to survive and thrive in it. less

This was a good book, but I felt like some of the parts were a little repetative.
