review 1: For me, Black Woods 1 provided a suspenseful and at points frightening story involving the supernatural. I thought the shifting of the narrative between different groups of characters worked well (though I found the parts with the group of 4 young men to be the most interesting). I also thought the use of the present tense in the book worked. The book has a great beginning, starting with an attack occurring decades before the rest of the story. The "rules" of the Black Woods and its terrifying inhabitant drew me in (e.g., the line the animal has trouble crossing). The references to the mine collapse in the past intrigued me, along with the rest of the area's backstory. I enjoyed the twist at the end of the book, which caught me a little off guard and ended the ... morestory nicely. I'm definitely curious to learn more about the secrets not divulged in the first book of this series.
review 2: Well done novel by an independent author. The story is quite unique and it ends well. It's a mystery with some interesting characters. The reader gets two views of the story. One from the main protagonist and the other from the young men out in the woods. The ending is unpredictable, which that alone deserves several stars. It's a little bit of a scary story. I know some people who might be frightened by this kind of read. It didn't really frighten me, but it kept me alert. The story has a few slow moments at first, but it certainly picks up and keeps the reader's attention.Rate: PG-13+ some adult content, but I don't remember anything really crazy. less

Got a little far fetched , was a little perdictable and shallow ...

Was an ok book. Didn't expect the twist but kept my interest.

Kind of strange so far. Makes me think a teenager wrote it.

Gripping, suspenseful, with an ending you don't see coming!
