review 1: Sweet collection of stories, reminiscent of the local color movement in American literature. The characters in their frontier settings and the struggles they face keep you reading, but you can be sure that the outcome will be predictable: if you trust in God, you will find the love of your life in the midst of the most horrible circumstances, just in time for Christmas, and you will live happily ever after. Come to think of it, maybe this could be more accurately described as a collection of Christian fairy tales than as local color! Despite that, the stories are heartwarming, and as an added bonus, each of the nine stories is short enough to finish in one sitting.

... moreve reading Christmas novels, no matter what time of the year. Since this one had short stories by many of the Christian authors that I follow, it was a real pleasure. I learned a great deal about some of the hardships that people incurred while settling in unknown territories. All the stories had couples who faced harsh winters, lost of family members, and still connected to begin relationships. A great read on a cold Texas day while nursing a cold of my own. less
