review 1: An Untamed Heart is a charming visit to an 1870s Norwegian family farm and all that encompasses. In many ways this made me think of this story as a Norwegian Little House on the Prairie book with all of the interesting descriptions of farming life. I love the way that Lauraine Snelling weaves the family's faith through all the work that they do. They don't set aside time for it. It is part and parcel of every day life. The main character, Ingeborg Strand, is an intriguing mix. She loves the life she's been given, revels in learning--especially when it involves midwifery and healing, rejoices in the beauty of God's creation, Cherish's family, and doesn't shy away from work even if it's a man's job--much to her mother's chagrin. This book takes her through a lot of twist... mores and turns in her personal life. There are so many unanticipated things that occur which bring joy or sadness. It also reminds you that God knows what he's doing even if it is beyond your comprehension. I somewhat enjoyed it, was a little hard to keep interest at some points..
review 2: This book is the prequel to Lauraine Snellin's much loved Red River of the North series...this book shows us how Ingeborg Strand and Roald Bjorklund meet and then finally come over to America. But it's a long road and not a smooth one for Ingeborg...full of deep love that is torn away. Parents who push for marriage. A passion for midwifery.I enjoyed the Red River of the North series, but it's been several years since I've read it. Now that I've read this first book, I hope to revisit it. less

This book was a little too slow paced, but a good introduction to the series.
