review 1: This one is just laugh out loud funny. It is more fittingly placed at the same time as Night Jasmine as the events are centered around the Christmas house party at Girdlings. However, this one is told from the point of view of two minor characters in that book - Arabella Dempsey and Reginald "Turnip" Fitzhugh. In the other books Turnip appeared to be simply an upper class twit. However, the beauty of Turnip is that he is without guile and his honor comes from deep within himself. And Arabella is a classic Austen heroine who is perfectly self aware and plucky. These Willig books are wonderfully cross-genre with a great sense of history. I even like the interludes with Eloise and Colin.
review 2: WHAT A FLIPPIN' CUTE BOOK! I love Turnip Fitzhugh and his clumsy, s
... moreweet, well-intentioned, bumbling buffoon-ness! I love how sharp and witty Arabella Dempsey is! I love how they act like an old comfortable married couple right from the get-go, and are cute and sweet and fun without any dramatic angst or huge conflict to tear them apart -- the world needs more lighthearted and sweet romances out there! Love the inclusion of Arabella's BFF Jane Austen, the historical details, and the light mystery/espionage thrown in for seasoning. Just an all-around charming little story; the perfect fluff for a winter's day. less

Just wonderful every time I read it! Also, I adore how it ties into the newest Pink Carnation book.
