review 1: Sam is a computer geek who works for an online dating company. He creates an algorithm that will find the perfect match for the subscribers. Unfortunately, that is not good for repeat business for the company and Sam loses his job. But before he is fired, his experiment with the algorithm helps him find his perfect mate in Meredith. When Meredith’s grandmother dies, Meredith is having trouble dealing with her death. So Sam creates a computer simulation that allows Meredith to interact with her grandmother. Sam and Meredith believe that they can help others through the grief of having lost loved ones and they start a computer simulation business call RePose. The business grows quickly and along with that growth come many complicated situations. Soon there are those... more who question the ethical value of the business and through it all both Sam and Meredith learn a lot about love, life, and death. The dead take many secrets with them. And they leave an emptiness that cannot be easily filled. The technological invention Sam created to help the survivor deal with death and grief left me saddened, interested, and sometimes even smiling. The book offers a thought-provoking look at how we live, how we love, and how we experience loss.
review 2: I bought this with a couple of other books when I won a voucher. It was the book which was the 3 for 2! lol I'm glad I chose it as I did enjoy the read...eventually. I picked this up and started to read it but got about 40 pages in and gave up. A month later I gave it another go - reading from the beginning. It's a good story. I liked it, but I didn't LOVE it. The characters were believable - Meredith is intelligent and fun and Sam is a typical computer programmer - a bit of a loner and confident within his relationships with family and friends but that's all. The development of his character is the most interesting part of the whole novel though and I think it's this which kept me going. The discussion about whether it's possible for the simulated interactions written about to actually be possible could rage on for years - probably until some clever programmer, like Sam actually comes up with the algorithm to make it possible. Although this may sound as though I think the premise of the simulations to seem farfecthed, I don't. I think one day there WILL be a clever person to do this, although personally I'd stick with the simulated emails over the video...Despite my 3 star "like" rating this is worth a go. less

An inventive plot that combines humor, tragedy, and issues morality in a readable clever package.

OK, nothing great. Not really sure why I finished it, but I did.
