review 1: I'm not 100% sure, but I think this book would be an example of metafiction. The narrator (and she describes herself as an unreliable narrator) is an English professor. There's talk about narration, tragedy vs. comedy, convention, etc. I loved all that.The main premise of the story is a woman gets pregnant, the father is not interested in having the child, so her two best friends offer to co-parent the child. It's a very interesting set-up and could probably work out, except in this story the birth mother is quite selfish and unfair. For me, she was a love-to-hate type character.My only complaint about the book is I didn't feel the love between the narrator and baby. Just as romantic relationships need to have chemistry in fiction, I think parent-child relationships ... moredo as well. I was told often that this woman loved this baby; but I wasn't feeling it. It felt false to me. I think it would have been better if there were more scenes between the narrator and the baby. There was so many other people in the novel...so much stuff going on. In a way, the baby seemed more like an accessory than a beloved child.Besides that though...I liked the book a lot.
review 2: Ok. I’m not really sure why I didn’t like this book very much. It’s not a bad book, you see, it’s kind of a funny reading actually but, yeah, I didn’t like it. I’m guessing that’s because I couldn’t really related with any of the characters and, as I already have said here, what makes me love a book or hate it are the characters.At the very end of it I could see a bit of me in there, but only because I’m too sensitive about that subject.It’s not a bad book at all. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone thou because probably I won’t remember about it two days from now. less
