review 1: I really liked this book, right from the very beginning. All of the characters are extremely likeable, and the dialogue and narrative are both believeable. Basically, Sam creates a computer program that will allow his girlfriend to communicate electronically with her deceased grandmother (who has also previously used electronic communication). With this come some moral and ethical issues once Sam decides to share the programming with the public. Although one part of the book dragged for me just a bit, but overall, I really enjoyed the book.
review 2: A thought-provoking examination of the way that technology pervades our lives in the 21st century - and even our deaths. But more than that, Goodbye For Now is a meditation of the nature of grief, its purpose,
... moreand how we can survive it when it seems un-survivable.Frankel has put together a disturbingly plausible scenario of how, at least for the living, the virtual world in which we spend more and more of our time can end-run death, and she does not flinch from all the implications of what she has wrought. Nor does she forget the human factor that lies at the heart of all that computer use. She manages these tricks with a great deal of insight and a surprisingly amount of humor. Well worth a read. less
