review 1: Okay, so, I started reading this pretty late last night and in the middle of this book I had to let the dog out. He's a giant wuss (pot, meet kettle), which means I have to go outside with him. Do you know what happened? While I had a head full of spooky ghost towns, murderers, and scary dark woods, my husband locked me out because he thought I was in bed. Everyone had turned off their Christmas lights, it was snowing, I was freezing my ass of, do I have to go on? There is a reason I don't watch scary movies, but I love LB Gregg's writing so much, I just had to read this. I had to keep reading this until two in the morning because I couldn't stop during the scary bit. (Did I mention I'm a giant wuss?) ANYWAY. Did I make it back inside? Yes, yes I did. Did I love this to pi... moreeces regardless? Of course I did. Although from now on I will stick to daytime reading when it comes to Ms. Gregg. And I'm taking a key with me when I go outside at night.
review 2: Alex is hot for his straight roommate Shannon, but he has a rule of not messing with straight guys since they have a tendency to beat the shit out of you or ignore you completely after you get them off. On their way to their respective homes over a holiday weekend, their designated driver, Ricky, decides to take a short cut and they end up in a ditch in the middle of nowhere with Ricky missing and a homicidal convict bent on getting away without leaving witnesses. Now Alex not only needs to find Ricky with Shannon and evade the convict, but he also has to try not to jump Shannon's mouthwatering ass or lose his shit when they find themselves in the middle of a creepy ghost town. This works mainly because Alex is a pretty decent narrator. He's funny without trying too hard, and his take on both the setting and their predicament is straightforward but still entertaining. He also mentions bad porn and B-horror films and connect them to his situation, which alternately turns him on and scares the shit out of him. It's also nice that Shannon isn't just a buff eye candy with a huge dong. He's level headed throughout the whole thing, intelligent, and has a lot of respect for Alex. He knows what his strengths are and gets that Alex offers his own set as well. The dirty, dangerous, spooky setting also works oddly well as background for the romance and the hot man lovin'. Whodathunk frottage in a sinkhole while fearing for your lives would turn out to be pretty hot? less

Really refreshing take on a lot of standard horror tropes, with a huge dollop of humor.
