review 1: Okay, I'm just going to review Book 1-3 at one go and talk about what they have in common. What they have in common is this: Gregg excels at writing mysteries/subplots that feels more like an obstacle than an actual sub-plot. This is not a fault that can only be found in her writing, but plenty of books in the 'mystery mm' genre. Her writing is quirky, fast-paced, and lighthearted, which is a good thing, but it doesn't justify the characters. Although they have some personality, they make very poor main characters in romance novels. The MCs alternate between hunting each other down and trading sexual assaults - and hating each other's guts. Not a wonderful platform upon to base a hundred years of relationship.Which is what makes you incredulous in the first place - that char... moreacters that have barely any interaction except sex and spiteful words and misunderstandings can find themselves in love with each other within five meetings. The first book excused this because the characters had known each other for a lifetime, but the other books literally had characters who hung about each other for a week before their supposed HEA.And yes, half of that time was spent despising each other.I found them to be readable books - just without an engaging mystery or a believable relationship.
review 2: This was a quick and fun read. I wasn't challenged or terribly engaged, but I did enjoy it. The actual plot was a little threadbare at points but the writing carried me through. Even when the plot that is supposed to create tension failed, the characters and the style were enough to keep me turning pages. And Tony is hot as all get-out. So, yeah, I wasn't blown away, but I will certainly keep reading the series. less
