review 1: I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.I read this book twice in order to get a grip on my feelings about it. I would rate it a 3.75.This book is a standalone, but part of a series. Since I am not fond of cliffhanger series books, this was a good thing. I myself probably would have benefitted from reading the first few books in the series, as a few of the secondary characters had quirks that had me scratching my head. This is just a personal preference, and I am sure that others would breeze right by this.I liked most of the secondary characters. Claire irritated me, I disliked that she seemed to pick at Sam. I liked that Wynne had hopes and dreams other than the B & B, and I loved her ideas to bring in more revenue! Loved the blind-date coo... moreking class!Sam has been internally searching for himself. He seems to always come up short in the end. He is in a rut, many people find him boring. He wonders if his life should have been different, and this makes him frustrated and impatient. He wonders sometimes who he is.Aaron is reckless, has so many secrets. He is so different from Sam. He mocks Sam a lot, and I did not feel a real affinity for him, even at the end with the "reveal". I just felt that there is a line between fun mocking and sometimes meanness. I know that the secret he carried weighed heavily on him, but I just didnt feel it for him. I felt like Sam was always behind the eight ball, and Aaron was a "smirker". It annoyed me.The main characters DID have chemistry. I loved that Sam was so much bigger than Aaron. I felt that at least Sam had something on Aaron. The intimate scenes were GREAT. loved the church scene (poor Sam, always caught...the library...the church). Loved Tony...needed to read past books to get a real feel for him. He seemed to get a real kick out of outing Sam!I did find this book a little hard to follow at times. I honestly had to read the first page a few times to get the gist of it before I could go on. Even when reading the book a second time I had this problem. I did have to go back and forth a few times in the book to reconcile things I had read. This did detract from the book for me...kinda ruined the flow, and had me scratching my head. All in all, I liked this book. Wish I liked Aaron a little more. I really liked Sam though.I would recommend others read the first books first.
review 2: Aaron and Sam was a fun, funny, sexy read. I loved this story it was just what I needed. I probably smiled or laughed my way through at least 75% of the book and really who doesn't like a book that is just pure enjoyment from start to finish.I've enjoyed all of the books in this series and while it has been a while since Ms Gregg released anything new for the Men of Smithfield, this one was worth the wait. Aaron and Sam were not the only likeable characters in this story. I thoroughly enjoyed Sam's sister Wynne and their friend Claire along with the rest of the date night night cooking class. Of course we also had a visit from some familiar characters as well, the town sheriff, Tony Gervase, showed up once or three times when Sam least appreciated it and I most enjoyed it. Adam was there to offer support when needed and let us not forget the sex...it was steamy sometimes you could almost say it was a near religious experience.I certainly hope this isn't the last visit I get to make to Smithfield but just a reminder of what a fun place it is to go to.4.5 stars rounded down for GoodReads. less
