review 1: A refreshing change of pace from my two pov regency England reads, Leigh Michaels gave me four! If this were the beginning of my reading career I'd feel overwhelmed maybe more so because my ereader decided to break up the sentences so I had mini paragraphs than my inability to keep up with the storyline. Although neither of the predicaments the characters face are new Ms. Michaels writing style and her shrewd decision to leave us at the edge of our seats just as she switches scenes to a different character. I found myself rooting for Penny Wise and the Earl rather than who the story truly was about; The Duke of Somervale and Lady Olivia Reyne.
review 2: I have heard wonderful things about Leigh Michaels so when I was offered Just One Season in London to review
... moreI decided to chance it. Talk about taking risks paying off. I fell in love with that book and was so excited to be given the opportunity to review The Wedding Affair. While not a 5 star read for me it did solidly place Leigh Michaels in my must read historical romance authors list.I loved all the characters but especially the Duke and Lady Reyne. The chemistry between the two sizzles whenever they are together and also just reading about both going about their daily tasks made me enjoy them even more. It was touching to see Simon spending time with Lady Reyne's daughter, Charlotte, for the sheer pleasure of it and being shocked that his actions could be viewed in a nefarious light. Lady Stone, a favorite of mine from the last book, makes another appearance here and keeps the humor going as she can make observations that only a high ranking, crochety old woman can make without censure. The romances between Kate and Andrew and Penelope and her husband were just as sweet but I really wish each duo had their own book dedicated to their story. It felt like both could have been developed so much more especially Penelope's story. The estrangement between her and her husband was brought up so abruptly that at first I wondered if she avoided him because he was abusive or a cad. Then we find out the real reason he keeps himself distant from Penelope and it seems childish yet understandable but then the resolution comes so suddenly that it made his feelings seem trivial and like someone who was having a temper tantrum.Still I did really enjoy this book and my main criticism was it would have been better as 3 books so we could have seen more of each couple. If you haven't read Leigh Michaels you should definitely pick up one of her books. less
