review 1: The ultimate guilty pleasure, like chocolate. A light, juicy read thats perfect for those dark days of winter when youre tired of dark and moody paranormal books . I wish Lady Ada had a few flaws, because sometimes shes a little too good. Rose has anough spirit to try to pursue her passions, but at times I felt as if she was too victimized ( how could she have agreed to go on a date with Sebastian, the stepson of the master of the house, risking her job and livelihood, her references and her reputation? Never could have seen that one coming?) and gets herself dociley into messes without a plan b to get herself out. Also, I wish the author had developped the relationship between Sebastian and the other valet a little more. They are a pair of interesting characters and I wi... moresh more time had been spent on thier relationship. This book is still a fascinating peek into the Downton Abbey like world of upstairs downstairs, and a fascinating history lesson that isnt boring at all. I look forewards to the next book in the series.
review 2: I thoroughly enjoyed this young adult read. I enjoyed the historical setting of early twentieth century England. It is a "lord sand ladies" book, but at the same time, the female characters are on the cusp of change of the role of women in British society - education and suffrage are in the storyline as the nation deals with the problems of the "Empire" and unrest in Europe. Oh, and heck, there are romances and juicy scandals too! I admit it! It was a lot of fluff too! less
