At Somerton
review 1: Downton Abbey comes to books in this exciting series about the daughters of the Earl of Westlake. Ada, the eldest and a beauty is counted on to make a good match. But she begins a romance with a most inappropriate man. Georgiana is still in the school room but finds herself giving her heart to a boy whose affection lies elsewhere. Sebastian has a secret which must be kept or the scandal will destroy him. How desperate will he become when the tale is likely to be told in the tabloids? Charlotte is delighted her mother married the Earl of Westlake - his nobility secures places in society their wealth alone didn't grant them - but provoked when Ada wins the affection of Charlotte's beaus. Is life at Somerton going to be one big challenge? Rose has no idea of her true parentag... moree but her life is being ruled by it without her knowledge. As upstairs and downstairs collide in one small world, lives will be lost, positions will shift and no one will end the year quite where they began it.
review 2: Cinders and Sapphires is a wonderful tale that combines our love for drama with our love of history. I love a book that is not only entertaining but reminds us of those who came before us and the struggles they faced not only socially, but politically. The story weaves in and out of romantic and dramatic lives of its characters faster than a motorcyclists in traffic and as I was reading, I couldn't help but be reminded of the play, La Ronde by Arthur Schnitzler. That being said, I would argue that there were one too many characters to keep track of. The author might think to put a list of the characters at the beginning of the book so we as readers don't forget who is who. Otherwise, this is a delightful novel that anyone would enjoy and I look forward to reading the next book in the series. less

It's like the love child of Downtown Abbey and Gossip Girl. On crack. I loved every minute of it.

This was Downton Abbey with teen protagonists, but the same issues.
