review 1: I thought it was interesting that Sherlock Holmes takes on the mysteries of the bible. It is different. What I didn't understand is what the Needle's eye was or how they got a hold of it. They didn't go into how it worked. I could have missed that explanation. Some of the biblical stories were familiar to me since I grew up Catholic and going to church. I liked the first two stories. After the four story, it started to get very dry. I didn't feel the writer captured the voice of the original author, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It just didn't seem the same as reading the original stories. I thought the book was only average.
review 2: Once again I have been disappointed. Maybe my expectations are too high ... Nawwww! This book started VERY solidly ... I had been so
... morelooking forward to it (maybe I built my expectations too high?) ... the preview that I read had me completely immersed.Unfortunately it didn't last much past the free preview. The story line, which I initially felt could be a little on the weak side ... was. That may be a little harsh ... the problem, at least for me, was perception and detail. The parts of the story that take place in London & the surrounding areas, are credible. They have depth and detail ... you can see and feel it in your mind's eye. The portions that take place in the middle east lack any sense of depth. The feel was entirely different for me, almost as if I was reading 2 different books at the same time. One other issue that I had with this book had to do with the use of language. Not that there was any foul language, but for some reason it felt like the author kept alternating between different versions of English. It wasn't really a dialect or regional issue, it just seemed as though he was using a couple of different eras of language ... and without any consistency in who or when it was used. It was somewhat distracting to me. less

Great combination of Sherlock characters and diving into the mysteries of the bible.

I wanted to like it more, but while it was okay, just wasn't more than that.
