review 1: Bazı kitapların değişik bir havası, büyüsü oluyor. En azından benim üzerimde. Böyle elimden bırakamamacasına okuyorum ama bir yandan da hoşlanmıyorum. Belle'de öyle bir kitap. Aslında çok hoş, yazar yer yer fazlasıyla detaylıca anlatsa ve uzatsa da elimden bırakamadığım bir romandı. Ancak diğer yandan bir şeyler eksikti bence. Nasıl desem sanki yazar güvenli limanlarda dolaşmış gibi geldi. Çok güzel bir cesaret öyküsü olabilirdi, yürekleri parçalayıp ağlatabilirdi ama olmamış. Başında okuduğum o mücadeleci kıza devam ettirmemiş. Bir ileri gidiyorsa iki geri yazmış Belle'yi. Yazdığı gibi New Orleans'ı ele geçirme durumu yoktu mesela. Üstelik o kadar şey yaşayan birinin biraz daha uyanık olmasını bekledim durdum.... more Bu kadar zeki yazılmış bir kızın en ufak durumlarda böyle safça davranması, bilemiyorum acaba yazar hala çocuk kaldığını mı vurgulamak istemiş. Gerçi ben güvenli evimde okurken gelecek tehlikenin kokusunu alabiliyorsam, Belle'in yaşadıklarını yaşayan birinin alamamasına şaşırdım. Sonu da yetersiz gelmişti ki 2. kitabı olduğunu gördüm. Aslında deli gibi merak ediyorum ama bir yandan da çıkmasın istiyorum. Konuda Etienne ve başka bir isim gördüm, bu kızın sağı solu belli olmuyor. Jimmy çok sevdiğim bir karakter oldu, gidip yine salaklık yapacak diye korkuyorum. Jimmy gerçekten iyi yazılmış bir karakter çünkü, heba edilirse üzülürüm.
review 2: From the moment I started this book, I had to keep reading. The issues of prostitution and the selling of young girls is what had me hooked. It was so interesting to picture the lives they lived in 1910 as opposed to now. I had some minor issues with this book though.-So many plot twists. Well, I wouldn't call them a plot twist exactly, just problem after problem after problem. I feel the book could have wrapped up a bit earlier and had a few less problems towards the end.-In some parts of the story Belle is unlikable. Now this isn't through the whole book, just certain sections when the way she acts makes me annoyed that the protagonist is being a disliked character. Before I finished Belle I went straight to the library to get the second book "The Promise". But I actually don't know if I want to read it now. I didn't have any problems with the ending of Belle but I just don't know if I want to undo all the things that came together at the end of the first book.Overall the positives of this book outweigh the negatives I have mentioned. A really good read and would recommend. less
