review 1: Despite all the cliche's, ice princess, auctioning off gigolos for charity, and the paramedic with the heart of gold, this book was cute and fun.The bios and photos of two bachelors are mixed up. One is a blue collar paramedic while the other is a rich jetsetting stockbroker, an expert at pleasuring women.Maddy, a high powered financier, bid on what she expected to be a stockbroking gigolo and got more than she could handle, an actual honest to goodness boy next door who can smoke the socks off her as if he had the experience of a high paid escort.Through multiple twists and misunderstandings, as well as plenty of hot action, the score is settled, and the story ends happily. The best part of the book for me was the banter between Maddy and Jake as they talked around the mi... morestaken identity, each hearing what they expected, but saying the exact thing that inadvertently mislead the other. The author did diffuse the tension so that instead of an explosive revelation, the truth came out in private. Not as melodramatic, but more genuine and touching.
review 2: A fun read with compelling characters. The story is well-composed, with a thoughtful, coherent and tight plot. The premise is believably established but really, really annoying in and of itself. Thankfully, Kelly has the hero realize fairly early on what the heroine's misconception is, and gives him a reasonably appealing motivation for continuing the charade for a bit. Also good is that the misunderstanding is resolved due to the leads' own decisions rather than external circumstances. The dramatic climax is heart-wrenching and heart-warming at once, and really gives life to a set of secondary characters that sometimes come across as flat types. To be fair, the sensitive-and-skilled-lover hero is a flat type, as is the ice-princess-heroine, but enough of their insecurities and strengths come across during the development of the romance to render them compelling. Overall, a really good, well-written romance novel; the only thing keeping me from giving it a higher rating than three is the grating premise and the occasionally flimsy characterization. I think these shortcomings have more to do with the category format and the space limitations it imposes than with the author's skill, but even knowing that, I can't say I walked away from this book with anything more than pleasant satisfaction. less
