The Wrong Bed
review 1: 3 starsPOV: 3rd Person: Amber, Heath, DiegoSesuality: HotAmber Nichols is an intellectual. She thinks about everything and doesn't do anything wild and crazy. After her boyfriend dumps her and calls her cold in the bedroom, she feels it is time for a small change. Her friend owns a beach house in Nantucket and lets her stay the week. The house next door is owned by the Boston Aces' manager who frequently loans it out to his players for R&R. When the hot baseball player next door comes out of the ocean from his morning swim like an Adonis, Amber thinks a fling might be nice, but figures the baseball player is a bit out of her league.Heath Donovan is intense about baseball. He is on a forced break for 2 days when he sees Amber next door. He's immediately attracted and... more plans on letting go a little and relaxing with her.I liked both Amber and Heath and they had good chemistry. It was a nice little romance, but nothing extra special. It has a secondary storyline with 3rd baseman Diego Estes and his ex-girlfriend from back home in the Dominican Republic. I actually would have liked a little more from the two of them. Overall, a bit typical of a Blaze with plenty of heat, but not one of the better ones.
review 2: I liked this book quite a bit although sports oriented themes and heroes are not as a rule on my radar screen. I learned about it from an Access Roamance Sneak Peek. The hero (Heath) is the manager of a Baseball team and the heroine (Amber) is a book reviewer for a newspaper. Amber also loves to read for pleasure in her free time and believes that pretty much anything you want to know at least some help can be found in a book. At one point she and Heath go to her house the following is a description of what he sees when he enters "Books filled every conceivable inch of space. Built-in shelves butted up against furniture racks so that the walls looked as if they were covered with spines for wallpaper. ... She must have covered her collection in paper jackets of her own making because all the spines were mostly white with brightly colored strips in the center where the title and author went." It goes on to describe the different colors used such as red, green and yellow. My library is not that organized but I love the idea of wall to wall books, I could definitely live with that. If anyone has read Inkheart I would not mind having a version of the Aunt's (I think its an Aunt)house. Back to Double Play. Amber and Heath have a misunderstanding shortly after they get together. Amber a non sport person is told by her friend Rochelle that the Aces 3rd Baseman is staying in the cabin next door. Amber is spending a few days at her friends beach cabin and the cabin next door belongs to the manager (Heath) of the Aces but he allows the players to use it. The days Amber is at Rochelle's cabin Heath is actually the one at his. She refers to him as being the 3rd baseman and thinks she's like all the other women he comes across who just want a piece of celebrity athlete. They're able to talk it out and he realizes why she thought what she did and that his conclusion or rather assumption was wrong. By the time the weekend (I don't think its actually a weekend but it refers to him having a couple days so my mind saw it as a weekend. I have a friend who refers to Monday's as her Friday because of the way her work schedule works) is over he has decided that he wants to spend more time with Amber and convinces her to travel to Los Angeles with him. Amber has some things to work out having been given a complex by her ex who said she was cold in bed. By the way Heath helps her to overcome that rather quickly apparently its not her its the ex. Amber agrees to travel with Heath who is struggling as a Manager (its his first season but he was one of the player for years) mostly because he's having difficulty making the transition from one of them to in charge of them. On some things he's really good but on others he's not sure what to do. Amber helps him to overcome his shortcomings and it ends in a way that you get the impression they live happily ever after. However, there's no Epilogue. Amber had some really good ideas she was thinking about putting in to play so to speak if she stayed around. There's a question about her career which I think she planned to quit but what does she do now. I'm sure she found a paid niche with the team either that or just became the Manager's Wife who does for the wives and girlfriends what the Manager does for the Players. Since this was a Blaze I don't think it has a sequel but I wouldn't mind spending more time with Heath and Amber as well as the rest of the team. There is a side story about Diego (the 3rd Baseman) and his girlfriend Jasmine. They too look like they'll get a happily ever after but Jasmine has some dreams she'd like to accomplish and I'd like to know if she does although I'm sure she does. less
