review 1: Boys are Dogs was a very interesting and funny book. It kept me glued to the pages and I never wanted to set it down. Boys are Dogs was about a girl Annabelle, who had just moved to a new city. Moving was hard, but when she a got a puppy, Pepper, it helped just a little. Annabelle started a new school with boys and girls, coming from an all girls school. The boys are not nice at all and she has a difficult time with them. Annabelle uses her puppy training book to help "train" the mean boys at her school. In the end, she teaches the boys how to treat her and realizes that boys are equivalent to dogs! I would recommend this book to any girl! It is a very relatable book and it is fun to read! I really enjoyed and I think that most other girls would... more too!
review 2: Boys are Dogs by Leslie Margolis is a fun book that really had me laughing at times. I enjoyed it a lot and it was quite interesting to watch how young Annabelle coped with her changing situations. As the book starts out, the main character, Annabelle, has just started middle school at Birchwood Middle School--a boys-and-girls school that’s a huge change from her all-girls elementary school. At first, Annabelle is really excited about her new school, but after just one day, she realizes that this school year is going to be nothing like she expected. The boys at her school, which she had hoped she could befriend, seem to have a lot more in common with her destructive new puppy than with her. They tease her, call her names, annoy her, and generally make her school day a pain. To make matters worse, the most obnoxious boy of all, Jackson, is the older brother of her new best friend. Annabelle isn’t really sure what to do. She can’t avoid the boys in her school entirely, but she can’t just let them annoy her all day, either. The answer to her dilemma comes to her by surprise when she’s reading a training manual for her new puppy. If the boys act like dogs--why not treat them like dogs? Using tips from her suddenly useful training manual, Annabelle manages to make it through the next few days of school much more smoothly. From giving the name-calling boys firm commands, to showing the guys in her science group she’s the alpha dog, to giving boys at lunch chocolates so her friends can sit where they want, many of its tips come in handy. She soon realizes, though, that dealing with boys is nowhere near as simple as dealing with dogs ... To find out the details, you’ll have to read the book. This book was a really fun -- and funny -- read, and although the plot does seem a bit silly at first, it ends up delving into a lot of depth of human emotion about change and differences. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone looks for a funny but touching realistic fiction. less
