review 1: This is a beautiful book. It is large and heavy - but a perfect coffee table book. The pictures are glorious -- large and very well done. I especially loved the kitten pics and the close ups. There is a mixture of fun and thoughtful quotes and regular text interspersed throughout the book. There was a lot of interesting information in the text, but it is tiny -- so small I couldn't read much at a time and found myself squinting to read it. I know the gorgeous photographs were the focus of the book, but the text was so small that it took away some of my enjoyment of the book (and one star).I appreciated the information in the back of the book as well. It was nice to be able to identify the breeds and that kind of thing.
review 2: This book was about as great as ... moreI expected it would be. It's really big. It has a lot of gorgeous, full-page, glossy color photographs. The text is pretty hokey, about the love that cat-lovers feel for cats. The book is ostensibly broken into nine sections like "evolution" and "domestic" but the sections didn't seem very different from each other, and it all blurred together into one, beautiful giant book of endless cat photos. There were some photos of big cats, like panthers and shit, sprinkled randomly through the book. The author claims it was to help illustrate the nature of cats or something, but it just seemed random. I think nearly every cat I've ever met was represented by a doppelgänger in this book, which is kind of impressive because I have known a lot of cats.
