review 1: I spent most of the second half of the book rolling my eyes. The character inconsistencies and plot holes started to snowball and it took everything I had to keep reading. The main character, Tristan, is told that he has strong magical and healing abilities in the previous books yet he never uses either. He'll suddenly remember he can heal only when individuals are on death's doorstep. In the first book, Tristan was a pretty strong character. I was pleasantly surprised when him and Ushna had sex at the end and Tristan was actually on top. Since then, Tristan has always been on bottom. And I really dislike books where the characters don't switch positions or roles. It makes one of the characters feel too much like a girl. So then we have Tristan and he's pregnant and he beco... moremes even more of a girl. Now, I really like mpeg stories. But it is really hard to find a good one. This one wouldn't be so bad if Tristan wasn't treated like glass all the time. The author really wants Tristan to come off as strong but the other characters in the book ruin the effect through the way they treat him. It's a good thing there is a doctor in the house because every single chapter Tristan is being forced to see him. The drive to town to see a doctor there would have gotten annoying. Then we have Tristan's friends, Jory and Stan. I really disliked these two. Mostly because they were inconsistent also. When they first show up, they are so excited to see Tristan, they rush into his room and jump on the bed. Causing Tristan to have to see the doctor again. Because, right, he's made of glass. Anyway, it is then revealed that at the time neither of them actually like Tristan. Mostly because they are under the influence of a spell. But the fact of the matter is that they still don't like him at the time and yet they are so excited to see him, they rush into his room? I just don't believe it.There are numerous examples of character inconsistencies like that. And then there are the plot holes. It seems as if the author wanted desperately for there to be some conflict constantly going on. So we have constant intruders that somehow keep managing to get on the property even though there are over 100 warriors, a state of the art, brand new security system set up with motion sensors and infrared scanners. And the warriors are all decked out in ear pieces and walkie-talkies. And that is just the most glaring and annoying plot hole. I won't even go into how Daniel managed to get inside the house if Tristan, Ushna and a bunch of warriors were piled on the deck, blocking it.And then there is the lack of forward progress momentum. The author tries to explain this away by saying that Tristan cannot be recognized as leader yet because some god is missing and unable to recognize Tristan as emperor. But Tristan could still get the ball moving on fixing things he knows are wrong. Like with the magi college. Instead, he waits so long, the college disbands and the leaders go to ground in hiding. And yet in a previous book, Tristan is told he should act soon because the leadership has been weakened. What really had me frothing at the mouth though was Tristan shifting into a wolf at the end of the book. It had been stated earlier that he shouldn't shift because it was dangerous for the babies and yet, there he goes, shifting into a wolf and back. His organs completely rearranged themselves. Twice. I fully expected him to go into premature labor right after, but of course he didn't. This, more than any of the other several problems in the book, really made me rage for a bit. I really can't stand it when authors disregard the rules in their stories.I am so disappointed in the way this series is going downhill. The author continues to come up with religious lore, which is fine except that some of it seems to come out of nowhere. There are more editing errors. The instances of talking to the reader in second person have increased. Overall, the book is less polished than the others. Or maybe there were just as many errors in the second book but the errors are just more noticeable now because there are so many of them and they keep increasing. Overall, it seems all if the author lost her notes.I had a hard time finishing this one and I don't know if I'll read the next one. The thought of doing so makes me wince.
review 2: Just like the two previous books in this series, this third novel is a fantastic blend of old Sumerian legends and lycan lore, freely intermixed with Lexi Ander's more than fertile imagination. This book definitely needs to be read in order, In the end there is an answer to some of the most burning questions, but it is only a partial one. Part of me hated that because I want to know now, but part of me loved it because it makes this whole series of stories better. More interesting characters are brought in to play to thicken the plot. I you love a great Fantasy novel with paranormal elements, and a crabby pregnant man, give this series a chance, you will love it, and I am more enthralled than ever! less
