review 1: I've been a fan of Lili St. Crow since the Strange Angels series, but I have to saw, these are even better. She does a phenomenal job of bringing her fairy-tale world to life and describing the characters in a way that makes their oddities seem normal. There is excitement and intrigue. Of all of the reimagined fairy-tales I've read, these are the best. Her take on Cinderella is a fresh and imaginative.
review 2: I am satisfied with this book because I have read a lot of versions of Cinderella but not one like this. Ellie didn't want to be a charity case or burden to anyone, her friends didn't know the extent of the horror her stepmother put her through and even if they could help it was a temporary thing. Then Avery Fletcher came back (not throw sand on her fa... morece) but show his interest in her. But what could she give him? Not her shame or the pain of losing her father, that was for her to deal with alone. With nothing left, she desperately avoided him in the hopes he would move on and be careful around her stepmother. But something deeper, darker was yet to come and again Ellie refused to take help from anyone. That's what I liked about the end, that she learned to ask for help not because she was a charity case or number two in anyone's "I'll help you list" but because she couldn't fight alone anymore, she had true friends and a special guy on her side wanting to help her be free and happy. Boy, was that a swoon! I want to see someone shut Ruby up (in the best way of course) you know someone snarky or cool, who can deal with her big-mouth-and-bravery lol less
