review 1: I was hoping for more from this book after reading the blurb on the cover, so was a tad disappointed with the turn the story took.I enjoyed the parts written about the 60's music industry, but there was nothing a quick Google could not have turned up. Somehow the word 'schizophrenic' kept coming to me - I felt the book didn't really seem to know what its main aim was, there I have said it, I was hoping for some good juicy titbits from the 60's music industry, and ended up with a book about something completely different.
review 2: What I loved about the other Brett novel, the engagement with survivors guilt, really put me off in this book. I would have liked to enjoy a pop novel and I wouldn't have minded the abstract psychological dealings as biographical mo
... moretives, but I couldn't deal with the bloody details. Not in a book that I'm reading as a pop novel. But even as a pop novel I didn't much like narration. And I didn't get the whole fat woman discussion as it was leading nowhere as to not beeing fat anymore in the end. But making it such a central theme in the book and not solving it in any way but getting thin in the end is just a little week. less

I was surprised how much I liked this book. Now I'm looking for others by her.

An unsatisfying book. I couldn't empathise with Lola.
