review 1: I enjoyed this more than I expected to, honestly. I hoped that it wouldn't be too syrupy sweet, that it wouldn't make my teeth hurt from the 'woo'. It really didn't do either of those things. This is a beautifully balanced book of power, responsibility, darkness and light - good intentions and the consequences of actions. Persephone is an intriguing protagonist and I like her a lot. I like her Nana a lot but I don't connect with that character yet. Beverley is young but compelling - 9 years old but also much older because of her experiences, and it's just believable and sincere. The wolves, the vampires - nothing is easy and the complexity really got me half way through and I couldn't put the book down until I finished it a couple of hours later. Very satisfying, looking f... moreorward to the next books.
review 2: This is the kind of book that you believe could happen, even with all the supernatural things happening there is a sence of normalality mixed in. A young girl looses her mother, and instead of it all being happily ever after and she moves on as if nothing happened, she has the real up and down roller coaster happening. Persephone, or Seph, is a witch who keeps pretty much to herself, including staying away from coven meetings. She allows werewolves to kennel at her house for the full moon, even though witches and weres arent supposed to mingle. But everything get thrown even more out of wack when she ends up with a full house of people, and evolved in way more than she ever thought possible. I would love to get my hands on the next book to see if Seph takes her Nanna's advice about Johnny, which I agreed with and would love to have done myself, until his actions at the end of the book... less

This series is one of my faves. Loved it like kim Harrison, Keri Arthur, and laurel Hamilton.

First in the series, but so much like others, I swear I've read it before. I might try #2.
