review 1: Renting Lacy, written by Linda smith, switches between story about a few teenage girls in the child sex slave industry and a commentary about the reality of child sex slavery in America. I liked the book because readers learn about the horrifying techniques that "pimps" and traffickers use to lure, and force girls into prostitution. Using manipulation and physical abuse, pimps target and trap the most vulnerable victims. I feel like it's something people really need to be more aware of. There wasn't much I didn't like about the book other than that it was hard to read what some of the girls went through and what happened to them. I think people should really read this book! It's great and very informational. People need to know what's going on in Amer... moreica.
review 2: How do you rate a book so incredibly important, yet shattering? I find I can't bring myself to reduce it to a numeric star value. Hundreds of thousands of U.S. children are victimized every year, right in front of us, while we turn the other way, or worse, turn up our noses. Renting Lacy pulls the veil off, revealing the bare ugliness happening in every community, to children from every demographic, in a narrative that exposes not only the horror of these girls' existences, but also the truth about the self-serving coldness of a culture that grooms its boys and girls to be buyers, sellers, or merchandise. Read it. Weep. And then do something. Every one of us has a choice to make. "You're either part of the solution or you're part of the problem." - Eldridge Cleaver less
