review 1: This has got to be the most mesmerising novella I have ever read. To say I was blown away simply does not do it justice – think Hunger Games multiplied by 100 and you’ll only just touch the surface.For it’s short length, the story in incredibly brutal, cruel and powerful. Concentrating on Meadow and her life in the Shallows, everything is about survival. Trust no one, kill or be killed and never hesitate are hard lessons learnt from her father’s merciless training and you can’t help but feel deep sorrow for Meadow, not only for the girl she wants to be but for the girl she has to be.The weight of the world falls on her shoulders as she faces more pain in her few years than most people see in a lifetime, and this prequel lays a solid foundation for The Murder Comp... morelex to move on from. review 2: This was definitely (for me) a great attention grabber and really drew me into the story creating the need for me to go out to the bookstore like right NOW to buy The Murder Complex by Lindsay Cummings. I felt that the introduction to the world and issues being faced in the Shallows were all highlighted and relationships and characters were established, setting up perfectly for the first book. Lindsay Cummings did a fantastic job with this and was even able to throw some game changers into this short prequel novella and develop some great character growth for Meadow the main character in a short amount of time. There isn't much more to say for the fact that I don't want to give anything away so I will stop fangirling! less
