review 1: ADORED Still Alice, really liked Left Neglected, thought Love Anthony sounded great but it turned out to be quite disappointing. Genova is usually great at developing characters that I can feel for and really just fall in love with. There was none of that in this book. The characters were boring which got the story off to a slow start. I did gain a little interest once Anthony's inner monologues began. Though, I felt those were too few and not great enough to save the book.
review 2: 3.5 stars. I struggle with how to give this book a fair review. I enjoyed the writing. I enjoyed the perspective of a mother to a son with autism. I was wowed by the few chapters from her son's perspective- truly beautiful prose. That said, the way Genova ties together the... more rest of the book, with the secondary plots regarding Beth's marriage, and how the two main characters are connected-- it sucked. The ending, which in regards to Anthony, the boy with autism, was lovely, in all other facets was plain bizarre and, quite frankly, unbelievable, as well as beneath Genova as a writer, in my opinion. It reads as if she needed to figure out a way, and quick, for a deadline, to tie these stories together. So parts of this book I adored, and other parts I really though were flat out stupid. Was going to give three stars, but decided on three and a half because it was a fascinating read overall, and hard to put down for the first 3/4. less
