review 1: I received this book via a Goodreads win. It is a very well written book with an excellent plot featuring a psychological killer with a unique MO. Absolutely loved this excellent book with well developed characters. What I loved most is there were several things going on and twists and turns all the way through. Every time I thought I had worked out the killer it changed and it wasn't until the last chapter that it was revealed. I also liked the personal stories that were running alongside with Pescoli juggling a demanding job and demanding teenagers. Ending is a cliff hanger which had me scooting to Amazon to download the next book.
review 2: In order for full disclosure, I won a copy of this book via Goodreads. However, if anything I was looking to be m
... moreore critical of this book (despite my intentions). I did enjoy this and would have finished it much quicker if I had the time in order to sit and read it - the last few chapters flew by (cheeky reading at work at times). The story focuses on a serial killer who causes car crashes, saves the victim/target, gets them to trust him before leaving them in the woods to die in the snow. The two detectives feature heavily as they try to catch the killer, although FBI then turn up, the focus is on the detectives. You start finding out about their lives, the adopted baby and ex husbands. Then the latest victim, Rivers, is followed including her rescue! As I often read and watch crime fiction it is obvious that this is not the serial killer although it was written to suggest so. It turns out that although Rivers becomes strapped to the tree naked like the others, she is not part of the serial killer's plans but rather the work of a copy cat related to her first husband. The detectives are in a spot of bother themselves when one of them appears to fall victim to the serial killer. However, and hence the 4 stars, there is no idea what happens with the serial killers. It just leaves too many questions unanswered. I loved that style - swapping between the various points of view. I also liked how there was a lot of sexual description amongst the depravity of death and destruction. The fantasy, the eventual acting on that, the idea that you could. It is enough to make your own heart start racing slightly. The mix just surprises you and is well written not to be too crude and yet forceful. Even ending with the killer's last note is great.Overall, I enjoyed this book, loved the style but needed less questions left at the end. less
