review 1: Couldn't do it. I tried, I really did. Made it halfway through.The hero is an ass of epic proportions. There is no real attraction between the leads, the bad guys are charicatures, the language is often formal and out of place, and I don't buy for one minute Michael is a soldier.I love his POV in a romance, and I love a good hero. I found nothing good or appealing about this hero. The PNR trope of uber-alpha-possessive male does not work in this type of setting. Heck, the trope doesn't really work anywhere but it *really* doesn't work here. The only good thing I can say is I got it from the library instead of spending money on it.Then there's the whole issue of how Michael REPEATEDLY borderline rapes Cassie. Including in a public restroom. And she's all "Oh, Michael you're... more so hot I can't slap you away even though you're doing this when I said no." RAPE IS NOT ROMANCE!! And it is NEVER something to be glorified and shown as desirable because the hero is so damn good in bed.
review 2: First in a series, "The Legend of Michael" is gripping, with just enough tech plausibility to balance minor logic and character development flaws. The overall premise of the triangular power struggle between the government, good and bad "super soldiers", is an intriguing drama-filled setting within which the intense and unprecedented (and often unwanted) erotic attraction between life mates is explored. The intimately described sex scenes are satisfying and balanced within the main story line. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. less
